With my choice of reflective textiles and beads, I was trying to capture the luminescence of the delicate flowers in it's glory of a single night bloom.

On this piece the use of the beads and embroidery stitches to give the visual and 3-dimensional spiny texture of the desert plant. My surface designs are influenced by the use of small repeated shapes found in the artwork of Gustav Klimt.

The materials often give me my inspiration. I had purchased a small quantity of the long, red bugle beads which I was saving for the right piece. At a recent farmers market, I spotted some euphorbia cactus and I had my concept.

The sentimental shape was started and then set aside for some years. When I recently again began regularly working in my studio I completed the piece by embellishing the surface design of the heart as an exercise in creating texture with embroidery stitches and beading.

From an early series of cloud images this work was completed and has been in my private collection for years. recently I choose to embellish the surface with new colors, beads and ribbon to add texture and capture the light of a changing sunset.

With this piece I explore the dynamics of a pot hole. The organic shapes of asphalt that are ragged, jagged and decomposing. The speckled texture and colors; the depth of layers, metal flattened by vehicles, and the crab grass that insists on growing, all make up the composition of this fabric streetscape.

My surface designs are influenced by the use of small repeated shapes similarly found in the artwork of Gustav Klimt. This figurative weaving was directly inspired by Klimt’s Judith and the Head of Holofernes in the use of metallic fabrics and materials.
