Purple Prickly

Inspired by the Santa-Rita prickly pear, the color contrast of their blue-grey pads and the shades of purple make it one of the most colorful of the prickly pear cacti.

I enjoy embellishing my 3 dimensional desert botanicals with layers of stitch ing and a variety of beads that give that prickly texture and the patterns a sparkle.

The purple fabrics were dyed by hand. Back ground fabric was hand painted. The bronze colored prickers are beads made from dried seaweed. Other materials thread, glass seed beads, rick rack on hardware cloth.
